This Saturday we'll be hitting up the west end of the Gwynns Falls Trail and run towards downtown. If you're a fan of Serial, this run will be extra exciting as we traverse the infamous Leakin Park.
We'll meet at the I-70 Park-and-ride at our usual 8 AM.
We're running an out-and-back. Marathoners will complete 13 miles (easy peasy after the last 2 weeks of 18-21 miles!) and half-marathoners will step up to 11. Follow the green ovals painted on the ground and signs for "Gwynns Falls Trail" and/or "Bike Route". Before beginning the run, I'll point out potentially tricky spots and turnaround points on the map at the trailhead.
Note: this map has the first 7.5 miles of the trail marked. We aren't going that far this week.
Marathoners: If you don't have a GPS watch to tell you when you've hit 6.5, turn around when the trail hits Frederick Ave. This will give you 0.25-0.5 mile extra.
Half-marathoners: Turn around at the underpass under Edmonson Avenue. This is not marked a such, but here's how you'll know you're there: Run around the athletic fields, keeping them on your left. Immediately after the fields you'll go under a railroad. Follow the trail for less than a quarter of a mile to the underpass.
This route is significantly net downhill on the way out, so save a little more energy than usual for the return trip. Bring water and wear warm clothing. Call the police if you find a dead body.
Sign up for carpooling if you need or can provide a ride.
