Peak mileage is upon us (if you're training for the Baltimore Marathon). As is customary at HMT, we will celebrate with an especially long run at C&O canal!

Since the trail-head is around 1 hour away from Baltimore, we're dialing back the run by an hour. Thus, plan to meet at 8:00 AM at Carderock Springs parking lot. Once at Carderock, park at the right-side parking lot. Gmap directions:

Like the NCR, the route is super-straightforward. It's an out-and-back along the C&O towpath. Since there are no mile markers, you'll have to rely on a GPS watch or landmarks to determine your turnaround point.

Marathon group: 21 Miles
Half marathon group: 12 Mi

  • Weather is finally starting to look really good for running. It will be nice and cool in the morning.
  • There are numerous port-a-poties along the way and there should be water spigots at biker hiker campsites, located every few miles along the towpath.
  • There's no point in doing the 1 hour drive by yourself so sign-up for carpooling. Do it early so we can allocate cars ahead of time.
  • Bring snacks to leave in your vehicle for when you complete the run, it's important to start fueling immediately after.
  • I'm stopping for a Frappucino on the way back, you're welcome to join me!
