This week we're running through Rock Creek Park in Washington, DC, and you don't want to miss this route! This scenic trail is paved and filled with weekend warriors, and it's guaranteed that everyone will be out this weekend with a high of 61 degrees on Saturday. The half group will run 8 miles and the full group will run 16!

Remember to sign up for carpooling if you need a ride or can provide one. We'll head over to Starbucks & Einstein Bros Bagels in Chevy Chase to refuel after the run.

Meet Up

We'll meet at 8:00 am by the ranger station in Meadowbrook Park. There is some parking along Beach Drive, next to the bridge that crosses the creek. There is also a parking lot inside the park, accessible from Meadowbrook Lane. It is a 50 minute drive from downtown Baltimore, so plan accordingly and make sure you have a road map or navigation system. Be sure to call Sarah if you have any issues getting there.

Route

Half marathon:

Directions:
  • From the start, head east on Rock Creek Trail and find Beach Drive. This road is usually closed to traffic on weekends and will be filled with runners, walkers, and bikers.
  • You will cross Military Road shortly after 3 miles.
  • Continue until you've run 4 miles and head back to the start. There is no good indication on the route for 4 miles, so be sure to stick by someone with a GPS watch if you don't have your own.
Marathon:

Directions:
  • From the start, head east on Rock Creek Trail and find Beach Drive. This road is usually closed to traffic on weekends and will be filled with runners, walkers, and bikers.
  • You will cross Military Road shortly after 3 miles and Broad Branch Road at 5 miles.
  • After crossing Broad Branch Road, continue on Western Ridge Trail on the opposite side of the creek as Beach Drive. You will cross the creek twice at miles 5.4 and 5.7. After the second crossing, you will be on Rock Creek Park Trail. If you encounter Piney Branch Parkway, you went too far.
  • Follow the trail past the zoo on your right.
  • Immediately after the zoo, you will encounter a traffic tunnel. IF POSSIBLE, DO NOT RUN THROUGH THE TUNNEL. Instead follow the path to your right around the hill until it rejoins the road on the other side of the tunnel.
  • Your turnaround is at 8 miles, where the trail passes under Massachusetts Avenue.
